Tomb Raider by Microgaming
Tomb Raider is an interesting title that went through a number of reincarnations. It started off life as a computer game, and then became an immensely successful movie franchise. It is not very surprising therefore that it has morphed again into a slot machine title.
Tomb Raider was one of Microgaming’s first ever-online slots, and has had some restoration work done on it to bring it up to modern standards. The game has the usual five reels and fifteen paylines, but has quite a limited betting range that will put it out of the market for those of low budgets and high rollers. Each payline can be played for 7.50 up to 37.50 coins. Tomb Raider is a medium variance slot as well, which means that there will be periods of spinning with no rewards, but the wins will come if you are patient.
Old School Graphics
As mentioned, Tomb Raider was one of Microgaming’s first ever slots. The graphics represent this, and are by no means on par with the modern 3D ones that you see today on so many slots. This being said, the game did receive an overhaul on both graphics and sound. The graphics are bright and crisp with lots of colours being set off by a dark background.
The symbols themselves have been done in typical slot machine drawing style. They are not particularly cartoonish but are not realistic either. The sound track sounds a bit like you are climbing through a tunnel towards a casino somewhere ahead. It’s all a bit muffled, but the sounds of the reels clunking into place and typical slots sounds can be heard quite well.
Tomb Raider Treasure Hunter Theme
Tomb Raider was not the very first treasure hunter movie to come out, that was reserved by a fedora wearing, whip wielding guy with a great sense of humour. It was however one of the most famous of all the treasure hunting movies. Tomb Raider the slot follows the adventures of Lara Croft, the game and the movies heroine. In this slot we have a number of theme based symbols, including Lara herself. At the bottom of the pile however we have symbols taken from a deck of cards. These have not had much done to them, but are bright and stand out nicely.
The theme based symbols include two kinds of Lara, a Tiger, a Relic icon and an idol. Lara and the idol are the games special symbols, along with the games logo.
Tomb Raider Special Features
As Tomb Raider was created before the times of very intricate second screen bonus rounds, the game does not have as many special features as one would expect. The games wild symbol can replace any other symbol in the game except for the scatter and the bonus symbol.
The scatter is Lara herself, and can be found anywhere on the reels. Three or more of them will grant the player with free spins. You will get ten free spins and a three times multiplier that can be retriggered by finding additional scatters during your free spins round.
The bonus symbol is an Idol, which will launch you into a secondary Pick Me game when you find three, four or five of them. Here you simply have to choose between a number of idols, all who hide a particular prize.
